The Mayflower II is a replica of the 17th century ship Mayflower, celebrated for transporting the Pilgrims to the New World. [1] The replica was built in Devon, England, during 1955-1956, in a collaboration between Englishman Warwick Charlton and an American museum, Plimoth Plantation, combining the American museum's ship blueprints with construction by old traditional methods of English shipbuilders. Marmots are members of the genusMarmota, in the rodent family Sciuridae (squirrels).
Marmots are generally large ground squirrels. Those most often referred to as marmots tend to live in mountainous areas such as the Sierra Nevada in the United States or the EuropeanAlps. However the groundhog is also properly called a marmot, while the similarly-sized but more social prairie dog is not classified in the genus Marmota but in the related genus Cynomys.
